Release From Detention On Bond

Houston Immigration Jail

Someone can post either a delivery bond or a departure bond on behalf of a detainee placed into removal proceedings while being held at a detention facility. The person posting the bond must guarantee that the detainee will show up to their designated appointment. You can post the bond on Mondays through Fridays at the DRO Duty Section located at 126 Northpoint, Houston, TX 77060.

The bond amount is set by the judge or ICE and is often more costly than traditional bonds.  The bond gets refunded if the detainee successfully attends all the scheduled hearings in court. You can pay the bond by Cashier’s Check from a bank or Postal Money Order, and in either of these payment methods the money should be payable to the “ U.S. Department of Homeland Security”. The detainee receiving the bond must meet the following qualifications:

  • They must have a clean record and must not have been convicted of a crime
  • They need a permanent physical residence where they will live and can be easily reached by the government
  • They must not have been arrested at a port of entry

You can only post the bond if you are a U.S. citizen.  However, the person posting the bond does not have to have had any prior connection to the defendant. In addition, one or more persons can post the bond for the defendant. The process of posting a bond can be lengthy and confusing. For this reason, you should hire an immigration lawyer that has experience helping families or immigrants obtain immigration bonds and prevent removal or deportation to help you.

Information Needed For Posting Bond
